Applied AI Engineer

Hi, I'm Ronan Barrell. I design, build and deploy production AI systems — LLM apps, agentic workflows, RAG and integrations.

I'm an Applied AI Engineer with 15+ months of commercial experience shipping production AI systems for SME clients. I own projects end to end — from requirements and architecture through backend, testing, frontend integration and Azure deployment.

My focus is LLM applications, agentic workflows, tool calling, RAG, hybrid retrieval, structured outputs and evaluation. I build in Python and FastAPI, wire in third-party APIs like Microsoft Graph and OAuth 2.0 providers, and back everything with tests and evaluation scenarios.

Alongside client work I run NexusForge 3D, a small 3D-printing business, and I build ambitious personal projects — a grounded financial analytics assistant and a guardrailed multi-agent cognition sandbox — to keep pushing the edge of what applied AI can do.
